My mother waged a war on her neighbours from our kitchen. The local pie contest was the battlefield.
The ammo was baked apples and my mother scented victory until Mrs Shrub rolled in with a pecan pie that made the judge’s jaws drop.
Flash forward one year and my mother has evolved to cherries. Mrs Poot from number 36 brings banana cream. My mother doesn’t even collect her blue second place rosette.
Year three. Poot and Shrub bring key lime and lemon meringue (respectively). My mother goes nuclear and chooses pickled swan eyes.
She’s due in court on Monday morning.

Another 100 word story from the prompt handily provided by Madison Woods.
Also feel free to do me a solid and go to my new blog, The Istanbulletin. It’s basically funny and informative articles about travelling, eating, culture and history. A must for anyone who likes good writing and pretty pictures (i.e. everyone).

Haha! I hope the judges didn’t have to taste that one!

Oh my!!! She’s not at all competitive, then 😉 I really enjoyed the Poot and Shrub lines. 🙂

Still grinning at this one, gruesome though her final offering was. Nice comic take on the prompt.

Very good, enjoyed it. I might have used ‘respectively’ rather than ‘respectably’?

I thought that first, too, but than thought it was probably a play on “respectively” and their offerings were respectable, while Mom’s, that wild and crazy woman, was definitely not. Lots of fun!

No Writeondude was right I had written it wrong, thanks for the heads up 🙂

Either way would work; just different takes. Good piece either way, though.

This was my absolute favorite this week. Reminds me of when my mom’s famous apple pie came in 2nd in a contest and she swore never to compete again. And she didn’t.

Pickled swan eyes…I haven’t seen those in any of my local supermarkets! I suppose that’s how she wound up in court. Very clever story.

Made me laugh! She would be one heck of a brave woman to tackle the swans herself, but then madness lends a certain recklessness.

So cute. Made me laugh out loud. Kinda reminds me of Aunt Bee’s pickle contest.

may i please ask what a ‘solid’ is…..in this context, of course……

In this context it is going to the Istanbulletin and following it or commenting on some posts or telling all of your friends about it 🙂
