The 100 Word Novel – Twenty-Two: Diagnosis

CapturePeg knelt down next to Jen.

The girl smiled at the doctor but her face was pale and the smile weak.

‘Where does it hurt, Jen?’

The girl pointed to her stomach, near her navel. Peg moved the girl’s hand and saw that there was swelling at the spot she had indicated.

Jen’s mother spoke from behind her, ‘She’s been vomiting and had a fever. I thought it was The Lady at first but she kept saying she had a real bad tummy ache and I didn’t-’

‘It’s appendicitis,’ said Peg . ‘She could rupture soon. We need to operate.’
