The Big Batman Read: Batman Year One (in 100 words)

batman4041. Batman Year One (1987) – Written by Frank Miller, Art by David Mazzucchelli

Batman Year One is the definitive story of the origins of Batman, and the strange thing about it is that it’s actually Jim Gordon’s story. We follow Bruce’s return and Gordon’s arrival to Gotham city. Gordon must deal with corrupt cops, rising crime, an impending child, and the appearance of a vigilante who dresses like a bat. At the same time Bruce is learning how to be Batman.

Written and drawn like a 70s cop movie, this comic is a true classic of the genre. Every page has a holy shit! moment and the story is tight, tense and thrilling.
